Microsoft Surface Pro launched in India: Price, specifications and features

Microsoft has launched the Surface Pro, an updated version of Surface Pro 4 in India. Prices for the Surface Pro in India start from Rs 64,999. The new detachable Windows device will be available for retail purchase in India via online Microsoft stores on Amazon India and Flipkart, as well as Croma, Reliance Digital, Vijay Sales and other authorized retailers in the country.
The new Surface Pro was launched globally in May last year as an update to Surface Pro 4, and Microsoft confirmed that it will launch the Surface Pro 5 when it deems the update brings meaningful addition to the Surface Pro lineup. The Surface Pro brings improvements over the Pro 4 in two key areas – performance and battery life – without affecting the thin and light form factor.
The Surface Pro features the same design as its predecessor, but Microsoft says it has been redesigned from the inside out. “We’ve optimized every millimeter, with over 800 new custom parts and used 99 percent of the space inside the device – to give people exactly what they need to work and create anytime, anywhere,” Panos Panay, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft Devices said in a blog post at the time of launch.
Microsoft Surface Pro weighs at just around 800 grams, and is 8.5mm thin. The new Surface Pro is powered by 7th generation Intel Core processor, and it is a quiet machine thanks to the fanless design on the Core m3 and Core i5 models. In terms of specifications, the Surface Pro features a 12.3-inch PixelSense Display with a resolution of 2736×1824 pixels, and a 3:2 aspect ratio. The hybrid device can be configured with 7th generation Core m3, Core i5 or Core i7 processors, and uses integrated Intel graphics.
The Surface Pro also comes with 4GB or 8GB or 16GB RAM, and options for either 128GB or 256GB or 512GB SSD storage. It features a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with 1080p video calling support, and Windows Hello face authentication camera. There is also an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera for those who like to take pictures with their tablet.
On the connectivity front, the Surface Pro supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Sadly Microsoft is not launching the LTE variant here. The detachable comes with updated Surface Pen with 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity and support for inking. The device also comes with an improved Surface Keyboard with Alcantara fabric, and 1.3mm of key travel.
Microsoft Surface Pro comes with one full-size USB 3.0 port, microSDXC card reader, Surface Connect, 3.5mm headphone jack, mini display port and cover port. The detachable laptop is claimed to offer 13.5 hours of battery life.
“We continue to push boundaries to better serve the needs of our customers who are seeking greater mobility and power in their devices to stay productive. The new Surface Pro delivers the versatility of a laptop and a creative studio in one thin, lightweight device,” said Vineet Durani, Director – Windows and Devices, Microsoft India.
Microsoft Surface Pro is priced at Rs 64,999 for the base variant with Core m3, 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD storage. The Core i5 model with 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD storage is priced at Rs 79,999, while the 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD variant is priced at Rs 106,999. The Core i7 model with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD is priced at Rs 133,999, while the top-end model with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD storage will set you back by Rs 182,999.
The Surface Pro Type Cover in Black will retail for Rs 10,999, while the Signature Type Cover in Platinum is priced at Rs 12,999. Microsoft Surface Pen and Surface Arc Mouse are priced at Rs 7,999 and Rs 6,399 respectively. Microsoft Surface Pro product lineup turned five this month, and the Redmond-based software giant has also announced plans to bring Surface Book 2 to India sometime soon
